I'm blaming it on Grease. Not the kind in food, the musical! DD#2 is in the ensemble and I'm back stage working costumes, hair, makeup, crowd control, etc. as usual. The show is running for two weekends so there are 3 more performances to go but we have a little break. Nothing yesterday, today, or Tuesday. Wednesday is a tune-up dress rehearsal and then the last 3 performances. I'm going to actually sit in the audience and watch on Saturday. Kevin called yesterday to say he and his mom are going to that performance and asking if I'd join them. Yay! I miss him...my own murder (theatrically speaking, of course). It will be fun to see him enjoy Corinne's performance as Rizzo too since he's her theatrical dance teacher.

I'm going to try to actually lose a pound or two before then. As of this morning I am right back where I was the first week. I'm thinking I'll document a countdown. 34 pounds to go.....

Greek yogurt and an apple for breakfast. I have Smart Ones or chicken soup for lunch and there are mini carrots in the crisper to fill in with. I took a London broil out of the freezer as I left this morning - I'll actually be home to cook it! Will probably marinate, broil, and thinly slice. Big salad and zucchini in one form or another. Rice for the rest. Yay! Dinner!

Oh!! I almost forgot. I bought a dark chocolate cake mix and an angelfood one. Mixed them in a big ziploc and made 3,2,1 Cake last night. Soooo good, and just right for a single serving! 3 tbs mix, 2 tbs water in a coffe mug. Stir. Nuke for 1 minute. Top with lite whipped topping. Mmmmmmmm!! Just a point or so and very good. Will try other flavors later on.softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-32951616112841263522012-02-26T16:44:00.002-08:002012-02-26T16:48:36.264-08:00Well, Night Must Fall is over. We had a good run. It was tons of fun. I'm kind of proud of myself for getting through it all....learning the lines....going WAY out on a limb to be seen on stage. I will audition for more things because it was FUN!!!...but now on to other things....

One of them will be a serious shot at losing some weight. I hate seeing myself in the video and in pictures. ACK!!! How did I come to have that shape?? I know I'll never go back to where I was as a younger woman but sheesh!! Obviously I can do better!!

Tomorrow is a new day...or as Olivia would say "here's another day" :)
softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-77322014405986039872012-02-24T12:29:00.002-08:002012-02-24T12:33:54.271-08:00opening night!Dress rehearsal was ok...certainly not perfect, but Kevin and I didn't scramble our lines so I consider that good! No idea what the crowd will be. Online ticket sales are sparse. The director opted to skip the road signs and I think that is a mistake. Oh well...one is an audience, I suppose. We should have more than one!

Got up and took the girls to school and then went back to bed since I was up late last night. Ended up with a turkey and american sandwich at lunch time and just ate a smallish piece of pot roast that was leftover. Cast party tonight and Mary always has good stuff.

Although I'm not doing too great a job of sticking to any plan I am thinking about it and Monday is a new 'diet' week.
softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-7164417317147901442012-02-23T08:55:00.002-08:002012-02-23T09:00:22.585-08:00Tonight is dress rehearsal. I'm starting to get nervous....or is that excited? Maybe both? I really can't tell. We did a run through in costumes again last night. Overall I think it went fairly well but Kevin and I managed to scramble two of our scenes together...eek! I couldn't figure out how to get us out of scene 3 when it was really scene 2, but finally blurted out 'Oh, she's probably lost her memory and will turn up any minute' to bring us back to the "present". We did have to go over the same territory again in scene 3 but who knows if most of the audience would actually notice. There is a lot of repetitive dialog in general..... We two stayed for half an hour after everybody else left to run through those two areas a couple of times each - and hopefully we will be able to keep them straight!

Special K for breakfast yesterday. Yogurt, carrots, a clementine....and pot roast with peas and mashed potatoes for dinner. No doubt used all of my points but probably not any extras. All bets are off for the next few days though. So much going on.....I'll just try to do my best.softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-41116253331230703172012-02-22T08:39:00.000-08:002012-02-22T08:43:34.833-08:00I've been away again...as you can see. The second half of last week wasn't as well behaved as the first but I did manage to lose just short of two pounds. This week is flying by and crazy busy with two productions in the works. We did Night with costumes last night for the first time. Definitely some hiccups along the way but despite them it seems to be coming together. I dropped by Grease for a bit just to check in. Will spend some of Saturday there helping with costumes. Once Night is over I'll be all about Grease. Apparently there is a feud going on with the unions and now teachers are not supposed to do anything voluntary. That means the ones who normally help with the drama productions won't be....

Special K for breakfast. A clementine for a snack and now a mixed salad with a bit of london broil and string cheese added in.softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-53888439586446021132012-02-16T08:27:00.000-08:002012-02-16T08:33:18.150-08:00new doWell, I got my body wave. It's actually kind of loose curls at the moment. Hopefully my director will not have a heart attack when I walk into rehearsal tonight. I will be working out what I'll do for Night Must Fall over the weekend. Monday is a holiday so I'll have some extra time to play with it. Late yesterday evening I fluffed it up. Wow~probably won't do that again! My head was about twice as wide as normal.

I ate right yesterday but had rather too much chardonnay so I'm going to try to stick with water and iced tea for the rest of the week. Nothing like blowing a bunch of your 'extra' points that way.

Rehearsal at 6pm tonight so I told everyone to fend for themselves. I may reconsider and ask dh to take out the ziploc of smoked turkey vegetable soup that is in the freezer. The dds may eat it or may not but I'll have a bowl and I'm sure dh will. Egg white omelet for breakfast - bacon instead of ham. Special K for lunch, I think. Maybe an apple along the way.softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-75409606142193427252012-02-15T08:05:00.001-08:002012-02-15T08:15:23.948-08:00a bold stepI'm getting a body wave this afternoon - taking two hours off to make it happen, even. I can't remember the last time I had any variety of what used to be known as a 'permanent wave'. My hair is longer than it's been in a while (because I wanted some flexibility for Night Must Fall) and I've had to use an assortment of curling implements for a couple of weeks now. I hate them! Been rolling up my hair - well, the top and front anyway - and then going outside to feed Tate and Gabe, etc. I don't actually care so much about the neighbors but won't go to the street to get the newspaper that way. No matter how long I leave the stupid things in, my hair is flat and lanky again by noon or so. Sheesh! I've kind of enjoyed the length but not the extra work, so hopefully a body wave is the answer. We shall see....

Rehearsal last night was just Act 1 - and mostly scene 1. Our esteemed director called me out on my feet and I had a short hissy fit. Not normally the way I roll but I was sooooo frustrated at the fact that we are still changing blocking just over a week out. How the heck are we supposed to remember lines, new blocking, and feet all at the same time. Maybe those seasoned stage types find that easy but I decidedly do not. If I could just take my script and go home I'd very seriously consider it at this point.

I did manage to stay focused on dietary things though. Had a mostly veggies plus some chicken dinner last night, as planned. Spent an hour or so out with the boys scooping, so a little exercise. Special K for breakfast this morning and I'm planning yogurt and fruit for lunch. After the hair thing I'll do a chicken and brown rice WW recipe using the leftover chicken.

No rehearsal tonight...just studying lines, studying lines, studying lines.....softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-57847581083462327812012-02-14T12:42:00.000-08:002012-02-14T12:47:16.539-08:00here's another dayThat's a quote from Night Must Fall, the play I'm in. I say that line when I'm talking about the possibility of a murderer in our midst....

Rehearsal was kind of grueling last night. Kevin and I worked out some blocking that we are happy with before everybody else got there. Then we ran through the whole thing....to varying degrees of success. Tonight it's Act 1 again.

I had carrots with chive cream cheese afterward and two glasses of wine. Maybe not the best choice but still within the range I needed to be in.

Today another egg white omelet - no cheese, yogurt and and apple for lunch. I put a chicken in to cook with carrots and onions in the dark this morning. I'll make asparagus and a salad to go with. DD#1 was asked to make rice for those who wish to indulge.softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-65874018261031997282012-02-13T07:01:00.000-08:002012-02-13T07:10:31.862-08:00Here we goI managed to get to the grocery store between rehearsals and church and softball and visiting a friend in the hospital....whew! I have a meal plan, I have the right groceries....I should be good to go. I'm going to set small goals - Pastor Ed used the elephant eating analogy in his sermon yesterday but changed it to be a pie-eating contest since is sounded more attractive. Since I'm looking to lose weight I think I'll stick with the elephant! First bite is going to be a blanket "loose as much as possible before opening night". Might or might not be easy since we are going to be rehearsing like crazy between now and then. For today I am planning to skip any official dinner since Kevin and I are getting together early so we have time to work without interruption.

I started my day off okay with an egg white omelet. It had mushrooms, tomatoes, diced ham and a little cheese. I brought in Special K, almond milk, yogurt, a couple of strawberries, a small apple, 3 clementines, and a bag of "baby" carrots. I'm going to eat some of those items between now and leaving the office. I'll stop home just long enough to pick up the coatrack which should be arriving from amazon.com sometime today. The executive board decided to just buy one for LETCO since we seem to need one for almost every show. I'm going to try to drink lots of water today and will attempt to walk as far as possible to a ladies room so I get in some exercise without actually having to go to the gym or outside...it's cold!softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-63738183460751946182012-02-10T06:42:00.000-08:002012-02-10T06:51:59.069-08:00a new twistThis started out as a blog about my horses, Gabe and Tate. It is still going to have a lot of horse in it but I've decided to make a focus change. After reading a friend's blog I've decided to try using this as an accountability blog for what I hope will be a successful time of weight loss. I desperately want and need to lose 45 pounds. I've lost the first five of those over and over and over. I'm tired of failing at weight loss! As a rule I do a good job at whatever I take on, but for some reason that's not happened in the weight loss arena for some time now.

Soooooo, this is going to be my forum - even if nobody follows it. I'm going to sort of, kind of, follow weightwatchers - the old one though, not the new. Basically lots of veggies, a few fruits, lean protein and a few whole grains. I don't want to eliminate any particular food group entirely. I don't want to have to eat totally different from everyone else in the house either. I just want sensible weight loss. No, in all honesty I was to lose all 45 pounds by tomorrow morning! Since that obviously can't happen, I'm going to begin on Monday with the right foods in the house and try to do a good job of this. I'll try to blog a bit everyday - kind of a food journal and tracking system.

Wish me luck!softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-51346151195027991922011-09-21T07:45:00.001-07:002011-09-21T07:53:01.269-07:00And then there were two!!!
This is Tate. Until Saturday his name was Tater but I think he's much to handsome to be named for a food item! He is now residing in my back yard just across two strands of electric fence from Gabe. K2 can now claim Gabey Baby for all her own. Tate is mine :)

Dr. Sharon came to see him yesterday and pronounced him a good buy - clean legs, nice white teeth, good feet, and she was most impressed with his manners. He stood very quietly for the most part and he's still pretty 'new' to the environment. She gave him his shots and picked 3 of his feet. He wanted to give her the 4th but just couldn't. He is probably a bit stiff on his right rear and doesn't want to put all his weight on it. I'll keep working on that and will warm him up first next time. He's had a long stretch of inactivity and then he rode in a trailer for more than an hour on Saturday. The doc wants him to gain about 70 pounds of muscle so hopefully we will start out with an easy ride today after work.

Remember the favored china horse in my very first post on this blog...chestnut with white markings.....Tate has gone him one better...no white markings on his face and that's unusual. Welcome home Tate!!!softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-75143264156074231582011-07-15T06:26:00.000-07:002011-07-15T06:29:58.335-07:00We are getting there!
We spent most of last weekend in the steamy hot weather working on the fence. The posts are in, the gates are up. DH has been working all week on the run-in and it's just about finished. Softball will take up most of this weekend which is being kicked off with another horse show. I actually survived the last one and will try the walk/trot/canter division tonight :) Gabe will be happier about that, I think. He was less than thrilled to have to keep it down to a trot last time.

Here's a picture of K2 with Gabe - he's really her horse..... I'm still looking for a friend for him once he comes home.softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-62269622240564323582011-06-24T08:28:00.000-07:002011-09-21T07:41:51.079-07:00I'm taking a big step today....I'm going to a games horse show and I'm actually going to participate! Hopefully I won't totally embarrass myself or Gabe~~~~ I worked a couple of extra hours yesterday so I could leave early today. Gabe needs a bath and Katie's Sequoia does too.

I'm kind of apprehensive but Katie(x2), Jamie, and Jenny all keep telling me I'll do fine. According to Katie #1 if I can steer I'll be okay. And I can steer, so..... I thought Libby would be taking the plunge too but she's going to the movies with friends! Never count on teenage daughters! Oh well, it's just Gabe and I. Good thing he's done this before!softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2828962946428216836.post-61142549470068547742011-06-23T03:50:00.000-07:002011-06-23T04:17:28.653-07:00
This is Gabe! Katie...can you see me kissing your feet?? Thank you!!!! God is so good! He put me next to you on the platform at church for many reasons.... but I have to think that horses are one of them... Church Street music for worship is another, of course, because it's an integral part of me and you.... For those of you who don't know Church Street here is a link to our Christmas Eve service music.... http://www.youtube.com/user/otherlissamae?blend=4&ob=5 That's me, the second from the right, and Katie to my right. We are very versatile and worship every Sunday is a musical treat. We are awesome, I have to say!!

Back to the reason for this blog. I've always been absolutely horse crazy. I was put on the back of a horse when I was 2 by my mother who regretted it from the start because...I was instantly in love. Not as in "like".....not as if I admired them from afar...not as if I understood that my parents couldn't really afford it and neither would I later on...... No, I was HORSE CRAZY from the first moment. Mom lamented her choice that fateful day but to no avail. The deal was sealed! I was hooked!

Like any good, upstanding, horse crazy little girl I pestered my parents unmercifully. They did what they could (okay...not much...) and I rode now and then as an elementary school student. I had a friend at church, Carol Malone, whose parents were much more wealthy than mine. She had a horse and sometimes we could borrow another from the stable where they kept him.

I also kept little china horses all over my room as I dreamed of having my own horse. I made little tiny blankets for those china horses....the horses were small and so were the blankets....maybe 2" x 4" including the fringe I created by unraveling the two short edges. I was taught embroidery about the same time so I put my horses names on the blankets. My favorite was Socks - a chestnut china horse with 4 white socks and a white blaze down his face.

I had Barbies like most girls of the 60s and 70s. Unlike most of those girls I created a horse ranch under my bed. I had a French provincial canopy bed...the kind that is white with gold trim. It caused me all kinds of grief with allergies but I loved it because it was high off the ground and provided the real estate for my 'ranch'. The cases that came with the Barbies I turned on their sides and the part that normally held Barbie as she awaited her next modeling assignment became a bunk bed.... I created fences from anything I could find to fashion paddocks for my china horses.

I had a alternate universe under that bed....no Barbies - they were often beheaded by my little brother and ended up in a pile...but good bunkhouses and paddocks!! I imagined horse shows, rodeos, you name it happening there. At the time I spent every spare moment in the library reading horse magazines and books. I might not have a horse but I was determined to know everything I could about them. I think I got pretty good at it.

We moved to Arizona and my life changed radically when my parents divorced. No horses in that sad part of my life. Then my mom remarried and it was off to the middle of the Pacific. No horses their either and I was much too old for the china type.

I went back to Arizona for some of college and made a pact with myself once I got a job. I set aside enough money to ride, even if I was eating tuna and pot pies. I rode at a particular stable regularly and after a few rides was assigned to an Appy stallion. He was said to be a former television horse used in the old TV series 'Have Gun, Will Travel'. Whether or not that was true I loved him and rode him every week. He was called Applesauce - is that a silly name for a stud or what?? He was a love though. You had to ride with a quirt in your hand to get him to behave but you never had to use it. If you dropped it for some reason you'd better stop and retrieve it..... He knew that you did or didn't have it and that was the recipe for success with him. I was sad to stop riding him when I left Arizona to return to Hawaii.

In Hawaii I didn't ride for a very long time. Then one day, when I lived in Sunset Beach and worked at Waimea Falls Park, there came an article in the paper. It described a herd of 'horses' that had come from the island of Molokai to Oahu due to a drought. It seemed that the plan was to sell them to the zoo for lion food. A rescue group intervened and they were sent to the North Shore in search of homes.

The rest is history...sort of. I attended the sale with my friend Barbara Callahan. The tallest of the mares was obviously very much in foal. Barbara loaned me the $200 to buy her and I paid it back in dribs and drabs over the next few months. I named the mare Keahu which means morning mist. I'll post more about Keahu and our love affair...and of course about my precious Dawnie (Dawn's Early Light, so named for the time I first laid eyes on her).softballmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02406283586645533289noreply@blogger.com0
